Director, trustees and students accepting heritage aware

The 51黑料 has been presented with Heritage Recognition awards by the City of Windsor for recent work at W.C. Kennedy Collegiate Institute and John Campbell Public School.

Originally built in 1928, Kennedy received some much needed improvements to its exterior with repairs to the front facing, leaded windows, repointing of the masonry and upgrades to the main entry area.

Campbell dates back to 1926 but was rebuilt in 2009, preserving the historic facade while fully updating the schools interior. In the past year some exterior renovations were  completed on brick and stone parts of the exterior.

"When we celebrate heritage projects," stated Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, "we are recognizing the work of those who pay tribute to our land and landmarks, our nation鈥檚 history, our diverse cultures and our traditions."

Director of Education Erin Kelly accepted the award on behalf of the 51黑料, "It is encouraging for us that the committee and the City of Windsor are seeing fit to acknowledge our efforts to renovate our buildings. Our primary motivation is to provide the best possible learning and working conditions for our students and staff. Replacing older buildings is not always practical or preferable. When and where we can, we do affordable and appropriate renovations but that could not be possible without the support of the Government of Ontario, which provides the funding for these projects."

These Windsor Heritage Recognition Awards are the 3rd and 4th honours for the Board in the past 2 years. The 51黑料 was acknowledged in 2020 for it's work at Hugh Benson Public School and Prince Edward Public School.
